Caca. It looks like Blogger's on the fritz. A shame, since I've been wanting to set up a root-level blog in pathetic emulation of such notables as Ernie and Matt. And I even had a logo set to go, too.

Nothing makes me so productive in other matters as having something important to avoid doing.

Hm... I'd come out against the death penalty, but that would mean that any deaths that the government would be responsible for would be accidental. I think it's important that we give politicians something they can point to and say, "See? I meant to do that!"

The Devil's Dictionary should be required reading in highschool, which is precisely why it never will be.
Impunity, n. Wealth.
Faith, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.
Flag, n. A colored rag borne above troops and hoisted on forts and ships. It appears to serve the same purpose as certain signs that one sees on vacant lots in London-- "Rubbish may be shot here."
Degradation, n. One of the stages of moral and social progress from private station to political preferment.
Idiot, n. A member of a large and powerful tribe whose influence in human affairs has always been dominant and controlling. The Idiot's activity is not confined to any special field of thought or action, but "pervades and regulates the whole." He sets the fashions of opinion and taste, dictates the limitations of speech and circumscribes conduct with a dead-line.

Oh Lordy. This is one of the funniest things I've read in ages. Yeah, I'm a laggardly dolt (fun phrase) for taking so long to discover Bobofett.

Ryoji Ikeda's +/- makes my mouth water. But in the interest of, say, being able to eat when I get up to Austin, I've sworn off new music purchases.

Stupid digestive system.

Hey, guess what I did last night? Instead of doing anything as wise as actually preparing for my impending government test, I spent an ungodly chunk of time setting up that blog I was talking about! I'm using an old entry from P.W.V. as a placeholder for the moment, but I'll think I'll start actively updating it when I move out.

(And I set up an Amazon partnership thingy, so when I whore myself out speaking about whatever CD I'm obsessed with at the moment, there's a miniscule chance I'll get reimbursed for my troubles.)

Just saw Radiohead do a live version of Morning Bell (Kid A style) on MTV. Utterly magnificent, which only mixes my feelings on Amnesiac further. I thought most of the songs could've used a little bit of tweaking to really make them memorable. (The exceptions being Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, which is a song in the same way that Alan Keyes was a viable presidential candidate and Morning Bell/Amnesiac, which was just a snotty piss-take on the original.)

When they get their shit together, they're a frighteningly good band.

I'm loving the latest Opera beta for the mac. It has a simple 3-way toggle for control of image loading, unlike IE5 mac, which requires you open up a preferences windo, and Netscape which (horror of horrors) gives you no control over image loading at all.

It's essentially all of Internet Explorer's/Netscape 6's strengths (feature dense, smart CSS support) with none of their weaknesses (feature bloated, slow-loading,etc...). It's not flawless, but it looks as though it'll come damn near close for its final release.

Speaking of not very nice people, I just found out that the veritable queen of evil queens has her own livejournal. I love her.

Just saw a trailer for a movie called A.I., about the first robot child capable of love. (Featuring the doe-eyed little shit from the Sixth Sense as Pinocchi-oid.) A perfectly nauseating premise, but perfectly staggering special effects to help counterbalance that.

Still trying to decide if I want to see it... I did, after all, suffer through Jim Carrey in the Mask to see the CG effects associated with the movie. Then again, I'd rather inject a syringe full of air into my eyeball than sit through the scene where Jim Carrey's leading the policemen in a conga line again.

'kay, it's been about five weeks since I updated my other journal. I'm officially a lazy fuckwad. I haven't even been keeping up with my offline journal. But assuming I have *time* to write, moving to Austin will probably give it a big ol' kick in the ass, since it'll probably be a time in my life thorougly worth remembering.

I might also consider moving my other journal to the root directory, effectively giving my parents access to it. I'm not so sure about that. What I might do is delete the old one (save anything you want to keep now) and start a new one that's essentially a series of open letters to them about what's going on with me. Who knows. I might start a root directory weblog in the interim, but I sorta doubt it because I'm already involved in two weblogs as it is, and my posts to both are becoming increasingly sparse as I'm forced to devote more time to the Texas govt. course.

Holy shit, and I thought Texas was in the stone age with its sodomy laws that only cover acts between partners of the same gender! Ohio apparently bans unwanted flirting between people of the same gender. That is, if a man tells a woman that she has a nice ass and she doesn't like it, she can go piss up a stump for her troubles. If another woman offends the same woman by telling her she has a nice ass, she can have the woman who complimented her serve up to six months in jail or pay a $1000 fine at maximum.

You know what'd be neat? A special lj tag to control privacy levels inline. So that you could be like, "So, I went to the store today and got some sex toys & cottage cheese <lj-private filter="birthdayboy">to make a kinky birthday present for <lj user="somebody"></lj-private>."

Also on the topic of Bjork, linked from Joey Devivre's journal is a strikingly beautiful website on Bjork's new album.

Oh wow. I was reading a little more indepth and I found that both Matmos & Zeena Parkins have a hand in this one! Zeena Parkins is mentioned in Plunderphonics, Pataphysics & Pop Mechanics and is apparently an avant-garde electric harp soloist. Matmos, from the track I've heard, merge a lot of acoustic sounds with Nobukazu Takemura/Kid 606 type glitchwork. I don't know how it'll turn out, but this new album sounds pretty intriguing.
